Glenmorangie 23 Year Old Dr Bill Lumsden x Azuma Makoto is a rare single malt Scotch whisky born from a collaboration between Glenmorangie's Director of Whisky Creation, Dr. Bill Lumsden, and Japanese botanical artist Azuma Makoto. This 23-year-old expression combines whisky aged in ex-bourbon casks with Glenmorangie's first-ever spirit finished in Chardonnay white wine casks from Burgundy's Meursault appellation. The result is a rich and fragrant profile featuring syrupy fruits like peach, pineapple, damson, and plum, alongside savory notes of burning oak bark, roasting chestnuts, and baking sourdough. The palate offers a sweet, fruity experience with a waxy mouthfeel, presenting flavors of lemon balsam, honeycomb, poached pears dusted with cocoa powder, and gentle woody balsamic undertones. The finish is lingering and mellow, with hints of eucalyptus, lemon, and toasting oak. This whisky is best enjoyed neat to fully appreciate its complex character. It pairs wonderfully with smoked salmon, creamy cheeses, or dark chocolate, enhancing its intricate flavors.
