Cos d'Estournel, located in Saint-Estèphe, was established in 1811 by Louis Gaspard d'Estournel, who expanded his vineyard and infused it with his fascination for the Orient, reflected in its exotic pagodas and Zanzibar door. The name "Cos," meaning "hill of pebbles" in old Gascon, highlights the estate's exceptional terroir. Renowned as the "Maharajah of Saint-Estèphe," Louis Gaspard saw his wines exported as far as India by the 19th century. Classified as a Second Grand Cru in 1855, Cos d'Estournel has flourished under Michel Reybier's ownership since 2000, earning accolades such as a 94/100 for its 2001 vintage in Wine Spectator's Top 100 and perfect 100/100 scores for its 2016 vintage from Robert Parker and James Suckling.
